This year’s London MCM Expo is gearing up to beat the Guinness record set for “the largest gathering of people dressed as video game characters.” The UK’s top consumer event for movies, videogames and comics will attempt to beat the standing record of 337 cosplayers gathered in a single event. And that means — if you’re anywhere near London or in London — that tanktop-short shorts Croft combo outfit in your closet will need some ironing anew.

Guidelines for qualification to the event are as follows:

  • All participants must be wearing costumes representing characters from videogames.
  • Characters from other media such as films, television, books and comics are acceptable; however these must have featured in videogames before any subsequent appearances in other media. For example: (a.) Lara Croft first appeared in a videogame in 1996, prior to subsequent movie and comic book appearances; therefore Lara Croft qualifies for the world record attempt. (b.) Superman first featured as a comic book character in 1938, prior to his first appearance as a videogame character in 1978; therefore Superman does not qualify.

The gathering’s set for 23rd May at the London ExCel Centre. You can hop on to the official site of the London MCM Expo for more details.
