Square Enix strikes while the iron is hot. MCV is reporting that the Tokyo-based publisher has also expressed interest in wholly acquiring Eidos, just days after rumors of EA and Ubisoft’s bid for Lara Croft takeover wild-fired its way through the web.

Yoichi Wada, global president of Square Enix, has already visited Hitman developer IO Interactive (owned by Eidos) in Denmark, and is set to make a return-visit to UK to further efforts of acquiring Lara’s parent-company. If that’s anything to go by, it would seem that Square Enix is serious about penetrating the Western market with “new” AAA titles other than, say, Final Fantasy.

Insiders, however, are saying that even without competition from EA and Ubisoft, Square Enix might still have a hard time battling with Warner Bros, which already owns 20 per cent of Eidos, for complete takeover. Square Enix, however, can opt to hand-pick individual assets such as Tomb Raider with or without Crystal Dynamics or perhaps Hitman with or without IO Interactive. It’s more likely though that Wada would want the entire company.

Lara must be utterly confused by now.
