Rumor: Eidos Manchester closing [Update]

Bill Harbison, artist for Eidos-owned Rockpool Games Studio, is twittering that the Manchester branch of Eidos will be closing. We’re filing this under “rumors” for now, but the recent Crystal Dynamics workforce cut is quite indicative of Eidos’ recovery measures, so we wouldn’t be surprised if this were true. We’ve contacted Eidos for comment.

Update: Videogaming247.com has picked up the rumor and contacted Eidos on the matter, and Eidos is confirming the close-down to be true. The reason?

“As a company we need to focus our efforts on high-quality titles that will deliver long-term franchise value, and in these incredibly challenging and competitive times we need to pro-actively manage our cost base. This decision was a difficult one to make and we would like to thank these [14] employees for their hard work and we wish them well in their future careers.”
